Dr. Rian Charé Bush, Licensed Acupuncturist in New Orleans, has always felt warmth and compassion for those in need of care. In her youth, she was blessed to provide guidance and support for children and teens from underserved communities who came from families with limited means and a fragile parental support structure. She was also fortunate to experience the kaleidoscope of light and complexities involved in caring for children with special needs (physical, mental, and emotional). Her role as camp counselor for the National Youth Sports Program, YMCA, and the City of Boca Raton provided her with an opportunity to observe grace and benevolence in an unparalleled way at a very young age. It lit a fire that she sought to kindle in nurturing humanity and help heal situations with loving-kindness. Work in her teenage years in a support capacity at an Adult Daycare facility further fueled her development of devotion and concern for vulnerable populations. Philanthropy resonated deeply with Dr. Rian Charé Bush, and after a stint of time assisting the Make a Wish Foundation in her undergraduate collegiate years, she launched a non-profit organization to help children from impoverished backgrounds. Although her philanthropic pursuits were rewarding, Dr. Rian Charé Bush sought an opportunity to affect and improve the health and health care of those who were ailing on a mass scale. She saw Public Health as a means to that end. Her graduate work in Public Health Policy and Management provided her with tools to repair the crippled infrastructure that left the masses without adequate care, deficient funding, and a skewed perception on how to improve chronic disease and health outcomes. Policy, prevention and legislation were the keys to affecting change on a large scale, and her work with the Miami Department of Health and the Communities Putting Prevention to Work (CPPW) initiative executed under the Affordable Care Act provided her with an auspicious framework to implement strategies that would truly change the course of health of the United States population.

Dr. Rian Charé Bush was also involved in research with the Walk Safe/Bike Safe Program concurrently while assisting on the CPPW initiative. The Walk Safe/Bike Safe Program at the Kidz Neuroscience Center at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine conducted research on the rate of pediatric pedestrian fatalities in low socioeconomic communities in Miami-Dade county. The program piloted in 11 elementary schools in Liberty City and implemented not only statewide but also national curriculum to instruct children on safety and the fundamentals of safely walking to and from school. Recognizing her desire to affect change at a more individualized level post public sector, Dr. Rian Charé Bush moved to the private sector in the capacity of a Lean Six Sigma project green belt. She was instrumental in launching a pilot project at Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Institute to help improve the process of treatment for patients undergoing cancer therapy.

Dr. Rian Charé Bush’s empathy, compassion, yearning to support, and the creative force to truly affect the well-being of the individual with goodness and kindness augmented. There was still a passion that was being stoked and a role that she knew she was called to fulfill. Intense meditation and spiritual exploration guided her path to the call of her soul and the purposeful mission she was inching toward with every formative step throughout her journey.

Traditional Chinese Medicine encompassed the components of health and prevention, optimal well-being through the means of holistic care, emphasized prevention, healed instead of bandaged chronic and pervasive disease, and did so with compassion, understanding of the individual and considered the emotional, mental, social as well as physical aspects that lend to the status of health and well-being. It was the culmination of her life’s experience concentrated in a beautiful breath of manifestation. Dr. Rian Charé Bush, Licensed Acupuncturist, has been a fundamental learner of the medicine she practices for all of her life. Although her formal education in theory and practice came later.
